Have you come across the ‘Ramblings of a Rum Loving Mum’ ? If not, and you like a giggle, then please do check out this very amusing blog. Created by Holly, who introduces herself on the blog home page as ‘I’m a mum, I drink rum & I like to laugh & have fun’, she talks about… well, you’ll have to read it to find out. Here’s a little chat I had with Holly, the very funny, very honest writer, who will be talking about her ramblings later this week on Secklow Sounds…
Holly, I’ve known you for many years now, but can you introduce yourself to the readers?
Hello, my name is Holly, the Rum Loving Mum. I’m originally from Romford Essex – yep an Essex girl. Met my husband in a nightclub. Moved to Milton Keynes when I got a job up here.
Settled here in the end and now 22 years later we are still here. I have 2 sons aged 11 & 14, and 2 dogs, Pip & Mitzy. I work in Customer Service, but at the moment I train people, which I enjoy.
Have you always liked to write?
I used to tell stories to my Dad who told me I should write things down as I made him laugh. I decided last year to give it a go and created my blog ‘ The Ramblings of a Rum Loving Mum‘. Unfortunately, my dad passed away a few years ago so has never read them. I think he does have a good chuckle up on his cloud though.
What is your ‘The Ramblings of a Rum Loving Mum’ blog about?
I enjoy writing about my mishaps which usually end up with me falling over, or off, things and breaking something. Generally, life events, things that make me laugh, stories I hear and stories I’m told which I tweak here & there.
And, the Rum Loving?
I do like the odd tipple of rum. And I love rugby – you cannot beat a good ogle at a nice pair of thighs…( am I allowed to say that?!)
Yes, it’s my blog and you’re allowed to say anything… What’s your favourite ‘ramble’ you’ve written?
My most liked rambles are the ones I wrote about getting prepared and spruced up for a visit to the nurse – ladies, you know what I mean… and one where I wrote a serious post about the effects of bullying on children. I enjoy being able to write my thoughts and ones which others can relate to. I have followers all over the world and would like to reach out to more.
What does the future hold for the Ramblings of a Rum Loving Mum?
I would love to write a book, maybe in a diary style, detailing my rambles and stories. I would love to see my name on a book in my local book shop. That would really make me smile.
You’re going to be on radio soon – tell us more about that!
Yes, I’m going to be on 105.5 FM Secklow Sounds on the 24th November 2017 at 7pm, talking about me and sharing the music I like. I’m hoping it will help to get more people liking my blog.
Any tips for aspiring writers?
Don’t be scared, just give it a go! I’m so pleased I did.
